Fri Apr 11 14:19:08 UTC 2025: ## Kerala CM Defends SNDP Yogam Leader Amidst Controversy

**Alappuzha, April 11, 2025** – Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has defended Vellappally Natesan, general secretary of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, against recent accusations of making divisive remarks. At a function celebrating Natesan’s three decades of leadership, Vijayan characterized Natesan as a secular figure who has consistently worked with various religious communities.

Natesan recently sparked controversy with comments about Malappuram district, which were interpreted as targeting a particular community. Vijayan acknowledged the controversy but stated that Natesan’s remarks were misinterpreted and aimed at a political party, not a religious group. He praised Natesan’s long-standing leadership and contribution to the SNDP Yogam and its associated trust.

Vijayan contrasted Natesan’s three decades of leadership with the 16-year tenure of social reformer Kumaranasan, highlighting the growth of the SNDP Yogam under Natesan’s guidance. He further emphasized the importance of Kerala’s secular values, rooted in the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru, and the SNDP Yogam’s role in upholding them. Expressing concern over the rise of communal forces in other parts of India, Vijayan highlighted Kerala’s unique religious harmony as a testament to Sree Narayana Guru’s enduring legacy. He also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to implementing Guru’s educational vision.

Natesan, speaking at the event, predicted a third term for Vijayan as Chief Minister, suggesting the Left Democratic Front’s likely victory in the upcoming Assembly elections. The event was attended by several other ministers.
