PATNA, Bihar – A severe thunderstorm swept across Bihar on Wednesday, claiming the lives of 22 people amidst a punishing heatwave. The storm, which hit Patna in the afternoon, brought torrential rain and strong winds, plunging the capital into near darkness. Lightning strikes were widespread.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a three-day alert for 32 districts in Bihar, warning of continued heavy rain and thunderstorms. The state’s Disaster Management Department has also issued a high alert, urging citizens to remain indoors until at least 6:13 PM Thursday. The appeal comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the deadly storm.
