Tue Apr 08 07:17:13 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Proposes Ambitious EV Policy 2.0: Phased Out of Petrol, Diesel, and CNG Vehicles

**New Delhi, [Date]** – The Delhi government has unveiled a draft of its ambitious Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0, proposing a radical shift towards electric mobility by phasing out petrol, diesel, and even CNG vehicles within the next few years. The policy, currently awaiting cabinet approval, has sparked significant online debate.

Key proposals in the draft include a complete ban on new registrations of petrol, diesel, and CNG two-wheelers by August 15, 2026, and a similar ban on diesel and petrol three-wheelers (goods carriers) from August 15, 2025. CNG autorickshaws will also be phased out, replaced with electric alternatives. To further incentivize EV adoption, households purchasing a third car will be required to choose an electric model.

The policy also aims to significantly expand Delhi’s EV charging infrastructure and mandates the complete electrification of all government-owned garbage collection vehicles by December 31, 2027. This includes vehicles belonging to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council, and Delhi Jal Board.

The sweeping changes have drawn criticism online, with some users questioning the policy’s democratic process. Government officials have acknowledged that the policy may undergo revisions before final approval by the Delhi Cabinet. The final version of the policy is expected to be announced soon.
