Tue Apr 08 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad High Court Upholds Death Sentences in Dilsukhnagar Bombings Case
**Hyderabad, April 8, 2025** – The Telangana High Court today upheld the death sentences of five individuals convicted in the 2013 Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts, a case that left 17 dead and over 150 injured. The verdict, delivered 12 years after the devastating attack, has been met with mixed reactions.
MLA Raja Singh, while welcoming the judgment and thanking the NIA investigators, remarked that all the victims were poor and that although the perpetrators belonged to one specific religion, the victims represented diverse religious backgrounds. He questioned the nature of “jihad,” expressing his desire for an extrajudicial encounter instead of the death penalty for the convicted, specifically requesting the NIA to seek permission for such action. He also noted that Yasir Bhatkal, designated as accused number one (A1), remains at large.
The NIA’s Special Public Prosecutor, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, lauded the High Court’s decision, stating that the court accepted the NIA’s evidence, including testimonies from 150 witnesses and technical evidence, to convict the five individuals. He confirmed that the convicts have 90 days to appeal to the Supreme Court; otherwise, the death sentences will be carried out. Reddy also revealed that the main accused, Riaz Bhatkal (alias Mohammad Riaz), is believed to be hiding in Pakistan, making his apprehension difficult. He further stated that the convicts conducted a test blast in Hayatnagar before the Dilsukhnagar attack.
