Tue Apr 08 01:33:54 UTC 2025: ## Pune Hospital Faces Action After Pregnant Woman Dies Following Refusal of Care

**Mumbai, April 8, 2025** – A state-appointed committee has found Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune negligent in the death of Tanisha Bhise, a pregnant woman who was allegedly denied admission due to her family’s inability to pay a ₹10 lakh deposit. Bhise, wife of the personal secretary to BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe, later died at another hospital after delivering twins.

The four-member committee, led by Dr. Radhakishan Pawar, concluded the hospital violated the Bombay Public Trust Act and the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration Act by failing to provide emergency care and safe transfer. Despite the hospital’s claim that Bhise left after five and a half hours, the committee found the hospital at fault for not providing essential treatment or facilitating a transfer.

The committee has recommended that the Charity Commissioner take action against the hospital. Following the incident and subsequent public outcry, Dr. Sushrut Ghaisas, a consulting gynaecologist at the hospital, resigned citing intense public pressure and threat calls. The hospital’s medical director, Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, confirmed the resignation. The case has sparked widespread public outrage.
