MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin Badgers football program has received a major boost to their 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of three-star defensive lineman Carmelow Reed. The 6-foot-7, 250-pound junior from Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields, Illinois, announced his decision following an unofficial visit to the University of Wisconsin on Saturday.

Reed, ranked as the nation’s No. 57 defensive lineman in the class of 2026, cited the “family feeling” and consistent support from the coaching staff as key factors in his commitment. He was particularly impressed by the efforts of outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell and defensive line coach E.J. Whitlow, who highlighted Wisconsin’s persistent recruiting efforts compared to other schools.

“They were talking about how Wisconsin constantly came to my school and other schools weren’t,” Reed stated. “Wisconsin texts me, sends me graphics, and talks to my family. They’ve been consistent in my life.”

Reed, who boasts impressive junior season stats of 33 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles, had scholarship offers from several prominent programs including LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri, and Michigan State. Despite interest from powerhouse schools like Alabama and Ohio State, Reed felt confident in his decision, emphasizing the welcoming environment at Wisconsin.

The commitment comes as a surprise to Reed’s mother, but she expressed her happiness with his choice. Reed plans to officially visit Wisconsin the weekend of June 6 and intends to major in education. He joins wide receiver Tayshon Bardo and offensive lineman Benjamin Novak in the Badgers’ 2026 class. This commitment marks the third for the Badgers in the 2026 class. Reed’s early commitment allows him to focus on his senior season and team goals.
