Mon Apr 07 09:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Saudi Arabia Temporarily Suspends Visas from 14 Countries Ahead of Hajj
**Riyadh, [Date]** – Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension of Umrah, business, and family visit visas for citizens of 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, effective immediately until mid-June. The move, coinciding with the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage (June 4-9, 2025), aims to prevent overcrowding and unauthorized participation in the Hajj.
The affected countries also include Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria, Jordan, Algeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Yemen, and Morocco. While the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah insists the decision is purely logistical and not politically motivated, it comes in response to past incidents where individuals entered the Kingdom on other visas and then illegally participated in the Hajj, bypassing the country’s quota system. One incident in 2024 reportedly resulted in over 1200 pilgrim deaths.
Authorities cited concerns about overcrowding, safety, and the exploitation of business and family visas for illegal employment as key factors behind the suspension. Those holding existing Umrah visas will reportedly be allowed entry until April 13th. However, individuals found violating the new regulations may face a five-year ban on future entry.
Diplomatic visas, residency permits, and Hajj visas remain unaffected. The Saudi government assures that this measure is intended to ensure a safer and more organized Hajj pilgrimage for all participants.
