Mon Apr 07 09:49:44 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Police to Investigate Death of Suspected Poacher

**Chennai, April 7, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) will investigate the death of G. Senthil, a 28-year-old suspected poacher, whose charred remains were discovered in the Sarakkadu forest area. Senthil, a resident of Kongarapatti village in Dharmapuri district, had allegedly escaped from forest officials’ custody after being apprehended in connection with the death of an elephant.

On March 1st, a mutilated and charred elephant carcass was found in the Neruppur Forest Range. Senthil was taken into custody by forest officials; however, he reportedly escaped while handcuffed. Four other individuals allegedly involved in the poaching were arrested and remanded.

Following a complaint alleging that Senthil assaulted forest officials before his escape, a case was registered by the Eriyur police. The subsequent discovery of Senthil’s body prompted concerns, leading to the transfer of both cases – the poaching and Senthil’s death – to the CB-CID for a thorough investigation. The investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding Senthil’s escape and subsequent death.
