**Chennai, April 6, 2025** – The Tiruvallur District Collector issued a directive on Sunday mandating that all shops and commercial establishments in the district display their names primarily in Tamil by May 1, 2025. The advisory stipulates that Tamil must be the most prominent language on signage, followed by English, with a third language permitted if needed. Failure to comply will result in fines under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947 and the corresponding 1948 rules.
