**Bengaluru, April 4, 2025** – The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced the successful atmospheric re-entry of its PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM-4) at 08:03 IST today. POEM-4, a repurposed spent upper stage of a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere over the Indian Ocean.
Launched on December 30, 2024, as part of the PSLV-C60 mission, POEM-4 deployed twin SPADEX (Space Docking Experiment) satellites before entering a near-circular orbit. During its mission, it hosted 24 payloads, including 14 from ISRO and 10 from other entities, successfully gathering valuable scientific data. ISRO implemented a controlled de-orbiting process, including venting leftover fuel to minimize risks.
The re-entry was closely monitored by ISRO’s Radar Facilities and the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM). ISRO’s System for Safe and Sustainable Space Operations Management (IS4OM) continually tracked and updated re-entry predictions.
ISRO highlighted the successful re-entry as a significant achievement in its commitment to mitigating space debris and promoting the long-term sustainability of the space environment, aligning with its Debris Free Space Mission (DFSM).
