Fri Apr 04 21:31:00 UTC 2025: ## Hooda Accuses Haryana BJP of Betrayal Over Electricity Price Hike
**Chandigarh, April 5, 2025** – Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Friday, accusing it of betraying the people of Haryana through a recent electricity tariff hike.
Hooda criticized the BJP for presenting a seemingly tax-free budget during the recently concluded Assembly session, only to subsequently increase electricity rates by up to 40 paise per unit. He claimed this increase, impacting both domestic and industrial consumers, will extract approximately ₹5,000 crore from the public. He characterized the move as a blatant act of robbing the common people.
The former Chief Minister further highlighted that the increase, following a new tariff order by the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC), will negatively impact the state’s economy. He argued that the higher electricity costs will drive industries away from Haryana, leading to increased unemployment and harming the state’s youth. He contrasted this with other states offering concessions to attract investment. The HERC’s order increased power rates by 20 to 30 paise per kilowatt hour (kWh) for domestic and industrial consumers.
