Fri Apr 04 18:33:29 UTC 2025: ## PMK Demands NEET Cancellation Following Student Suicide
**Chennai, April 5, 2025** – Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss has called for the immediate cancellation of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) following the alleged suicide of a Salem student who feared failing the upcoming May exam. Dr. Ramadoss demanded ₹25 lakh compensation for the student’s family and criticized the exam for negatively impacting students’ self-confidence and making medical education inaccessible to underprivileged students.
He cited at least 50 student suicides in the last eight years attributed to NEET-related stress, with three more since March 2nd. Dr. Ramadoss accused the Union government of failing to study NEET’s impact on medical education and commercialization, claiming that such a study would have led to its cancellation. He also criticized the DMK for passing a state assembly bill opposing NEET but failing to follow up with the central government.
