**New Delhi, April 4, 2025** – The Supreme Court has granted jailed Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik permission to cross-examine witnesses in two cases via video conferencing from Tihar Jail. The cases involve the 1989 kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of former Union Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, and the 1990 Srinagar shootout where four Indian Air Force personnel were killed.
The decision follows a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to transfer the trials from Jammu to New Delhi. The Supreme Court, after reviewing reports on video conferencing facilities in Tihar Jail and the Jammu sessions court, determined that the Jammu court was adequately equipped for virtual cross-examinations.
Malik, who is representing himself, will participate in the cross-examination remotely. Rubaiya Sayeed, now residing in Tamil Nadu, is a key prosecution witness in the kidnapping case. Malik was previously sentenced to life imprisonment by a special NIA court in May 2023 on terror-funding charges. He remains incarcerated at Tihar Jail.
