**Tiruchi, Tamil Nadu – April 4, 2025** – A tragic road accident on the Tiruchi-Chidambaram National Highway near Irudhayapuram claimed the lives of three women Thursday night. Six women were traveling on a tractor carrying rice bags when a lorry struck them from behind.
The impact caused the tractor to overturn, resulting in the deaths of K. Santhi (50), P. Selvanayagi (64), and R. Rasambal (65), all residents of Azhundhalaippur village. The three women were sitting atop the rice bags, and suffered fatal head injuries when they fell to the ground. The other three women sustained injuries and were admitted to Lalgudi Government Hospital.
The tractor driver, A. Veeramani (21), and the lorry driver, A. Ravi (53), were involved. Police have arrested Ravi in connection with the incident. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the hospital for post-mortem examination. The accident highlights the dangers of overloading and inadequate safety measures for passengers on agricultural vehicles.
