Bengaluru, April 4, 2025 – Ranga Shankara theatre in J.P. Nagar is celebrating Ugadi, the Kannada New Year, with a special day-long literary festival, “Kathaa Kaala,” on April 6th. The event, now in its eleventh year, showcases the rich literary heritage of Karnataka through a diverse program of theatre performances and readings.

Curated by writer and director S. Surendranath, Kathaa Kaala will feature three plays adapted from renowned Kannada literary works, readings of nine short stories by popular actors and writers, and a special reading of Devanur Mahadeva’s iconic novel, *Kusumabale*. The lineup includes performances by established theatre troupes like Rangasiri and Abhinaya Taranga, along with readings by prominent figures such as Sihi Kahi Chandru and H.K. Shwetha Rani.

The festival will begin at 11 a.m. with a play based on Basavaraja Kattimani’s novel, followed by a short story reading session at noon. Afternoon performances include plays adapted from Veena Shanteshwara and Vaidehi’s stories, and a reading of *Kusumabale* at 5 p.m. The day concludes with a final theatrical performance at 7:30 p.m.

Attendees can also enjoy traditional Ugadi sweets and savories at Anju’s Cafe within the theatre space. Tickets for the plays are priced at ₹100 each, or ₹250 for a season pass. The short story and novel readings are free. Tickets are available on BookMyShow and at the Ranga Shankara box office.
