Fri Apr 04 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Chaitra Navratri 2025 Culminates in Ram Navami Celebrations Across India

**New Delhi, India –** The nine-day Chaitra Navratri festival, celebrating the victory of good over evil and dedicated to Goddess Durga, concluded on April 7th, 2025. The festival, also known as Vasanta Navratri, began on March 30th and saw devotees across India performing prayers and rituals. This year’s celebrations culminated with Ram Navami, marking Lord Ram’s birth anniversary and the Hindu New Year, on April 6th.

The nine days of Chaitra Navratri each held significance, with specific Goddesses worshipped and colours observed. Ram Navami, falling on the ninth day, saw widespread celebrations. While Ashtami (eighth day) is also considered auspicious for Kanya Pujan (worship of young girls), many regions traditionally perform this on Ashtami, considered the strongest form of Goddess Durga.

The festival’s timing coincided with various regional new year celebrations, including Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, Ugadi in Telugu and Kannada regions, and in West Bengal, it marked the start of preparations for Durga Puja. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee highlighted the connection between Ram Navami and Durga Puja, noting Lord Ram’s worship of Goddess Durga before defeating Ravana.

Sharad Navratri, the autumnal celebration, is scheduled for September 22nd to October 1st, 2025, culminating in Vijayadashami (Dussehra). Traditional observances during Navratri include abstaining from non-vegetarian food, onions, and garlic, as well as refraining from cutting nails or shaving. Many families invite nine girls to their homes, offering them food and seeking their blessings.
