Thu Apr 03 15:45:32 UTC 2025: ## Fiery Parliament Clash Erupts Over China Border Dispute and US Tariffs

**New Delhi** – A heated debate erupted in the Lok Sabha today between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur, focusing on India’s border dispute with China and the newly implemented US tariffs.

Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the government, highlighting the recent celebration of Indian soldiers’ martyrdom by the Foreign Secretary with the Chinese ambassador while 4000 sq km of Indian territory remains under Chinese occupation. He demanded the government prioritize restoring the status quo ante, emphasizing that “they have to give our land back.”

Gandhi further criticized the government’s lack of transparency in its dealings with China, citing instances where the Prime Minister and President’s communications with Chinese officials were revealed through the Chinese ambassador, not through official Indian channels. He also expressed alarm over the detrimental impact of the new US tariffs on the Indian economy, predicting devastation for sectors like auto, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture. He concluded his remarks with a pointed dig at the BJP’s foreign policy, contrasting it with Indira Gandhi’s approach.

Thakur, in response, countered Gandhi’s accusations, questioning which government was in power when Aksai Chin was occupied by China and referencing alleged past instances of Congress leaders’ perceived appeasement of China. He highlighted the Modi government’s strong response during the Doklam standoff, contrasting it with what he characterized as the Congress’s inaction. He also questioned the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation’s alleged acceptance of funds from Chinese officials.

The exchange marked a significant escalation of tensions within Parliament, with both sides engaging in sharp recriminations over India’s foreign policy and economic vulnerabilities. The debate is expected to continue.
