**TIRUNELVELI, April 4, 2025** – Central and state government pensioners in Tirunelveli staged a protest on Friday against the central government’s proposed segregation of pensioners based on their retirement date relative to the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. Pensioners retiring before January 1, 2026, fear they will be excluded from the benefits of the 8th Pay Commission.
Led by R. Seetharaman, president of the Confederation of Pensioners of Central and State Local Bodies and Public Sector Undertakings, the protestors demanded equal treatment for all pensioners in determining retirement benefits. Speakers at the demonstration, including S. Muthusamy, N. Ramkumar, S. Kannan, and K. Sivasubbu, voiced concerns about the potential disparity in pension amounts. The protestors urged the central government to reconsider its policy and ensure fair treatment for all retirees.
