**Khammam, Andhra Pradesh, April 4, 2025** – In a unique initiative to promote gender equality, the Khammam district administration felicitated 21 couples who recently welcomed baby girls. The week-long campaign, “Maa Paapa Maa Inti Manideepam” (“Our Daughter, the Lamp of Our Home”), launched by Collector Muzammil Khan, aims to celebrate the birth of girls and encourage their education and empowerment.
The Women Development and Child Welfare Department is spearheading the campaign, with teams visiting rural areas to honor parents and grandparents of newborn girls with sweets and certificates. The certificates congratulate the families and emphasize the importance of educating and supporting girls to achieve their full potential.
On Thursday, Collector Khan visited Kotha Lingala village to personally congratulate one such family. This initiative highlights a growing focus on combating gender inequality and celebrating the arrival of girl children in the region.
