**Krishnagiri, April 4, 2025** – A grand millet festival was held today at the Krishnagiri Collectorate, showcasing the nutritional benefits and culinary versatility of millets. Organized as part of a wider campaign to promote millet consumption, the festival featured stalls from all 10 blocks of the district, highlighting the nutritional superiority of millets over rice and wheat.

Collector C. Dinesh Kumar inaugurated the event, emphasizing the United Nations’ declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets and highlighting the role of millets in creating a healthier, more resource-efficient society. He urged the public to incorporate millets into their diets several times a week, citing their potential in reducing diabetes.

The festival included a culinary contest, with noon-meal workers from Bargur, Krishnagiri, and Vepanapalli securing the top three prizes. Additional awards were presented to noon-meal workers from Kelamangalam, Uthangarai, and Shoolagiri for their innovative and eye-catching stalls. The event concluded with a vast array of traditional millet-based dishes prepared and served by noon-meal workers.
