**NEW DELHI** – A video circulating on social media claiming to show a news report predicting a devastating fourth wave of COVID-19 in India in January 2025 has been definitively debunked as false by PTI Fact Check. The video, which shows a news anchor warning of a spike in East Asian cases and urging viewers to remain vigilant for the next 40 days, is actually from 2022.
The misleading video was widely shared on platforms like Facebook with captions suggesting a resurgence of the virus and high death tolls in China. However, a thorough investigation by PTI found no credible news reports supporting these claims.
Further investigation revealed that India currently has only 11 active COVID-19 cases, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s official website, which makes no mention of an impending fourth wave. The news anchor featured in the video, Syed Suhail, confirmed the clip’s 2022 origin, stating that the information was based on reports from that year and no similar reports exist currently.
Professor Suneet Kumar Singh, Director of the Dr. BR Ambedkar Biomedical Research Center, also corroborated this finding, stating there is no alert regarding a fourth COVID-19 wave in 2025 and no reason for public panic. The PTI Fact Check conclusively determined the video to be misinformation, falsely presenting old news as a current prediction of a future COVID-19 surge.
