**Mangaluru, April 4, 2025** – The Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Anupam Agrawal, has ordered an inquiry into allegations of corruption against Ullal Police Inspector H.N. Balakrishna. The allegations stem from a petition filed by the mother of a youth arrested in June 2024 for allegedly stealing from an elderly woman’s house.
The petitioner claims that Inspector Balakrishna confiscated 50 grams of her son’s gold ornaments, promising to include them in the chargesheet so the family could retrieve them later. However, the ornaments were not listed in the chargesheet. Furthermore, she alleges the Inspector extorted ₹3 lakh from her in June 2024 to close the case.
Commissioner Agrawal confirmed that the allegations are being investigated. Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhanya Nayak has been tasked with conducting a preliminary inquiry and submitting a report. The veracity of the allegations is currently being verified. This announcement came on Friday during a ceremony honoring 22 city police personnel who received the Chief Minister’s police medal.
