LUCKNOW, INDIA – A brush fire near the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow caused a brief moment of panic on Friday evening as a large crowd gathered for an IPL match between the Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. The fire, which broke out around 5 pm near the Shaheed Path, sent plumes of smoke and flames into the air, prompting screams from onlookers.
Firefighters from PGIMER and Gomtinagar fire stations arrived quickly with two fire engines and brought the blaze under control within half an hour. No injuries were reported.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, officials suspect a discarded burning cigarette or beedi may have ignited the dry brush. Chief Fire Officer Manghesh Kumar noted that the prompt response prevented the fire from spreading significantly. The match proceeded without further incident.
