KOCHI, April 2, 2025 – The Kerala High Court has temporarily halted all coercive actions, including arrest, against the parents of two minor girls who died in the Walayar case. The parents are accused in the CBI’s charge sheet. The court issued the interim order in response to petitions filed by the parents challenging the CBI’s investigation. Justice C. Jayachandran also exempted the parents from appearing before the CBI Special Court until the petitions are fully heard.

The parents’ lawyers argued that the CBI investigation was biased and lacked logical grounds for accusing them. They claim the investigation relied on unreliable witness statements and exaggerated the relationship between the parents and other accused individuals. The lawyers allege the CBI is attempting to portray the deaths as suicides.

The charge against the parents is that they failed to act on a complaint of sexual abuse and allegedly aided the accused by allowing them access to their home, even after learning of the abuse. The petitions also highlight the suspicious deaths of Pradeep and John Praveen, a suspect, urging a further CBI investigation into these deaths and their potential connection to the girls’ deaths. The petitions request a thorough investigation into the homicidal angle of the girls’ deaths.
