**New Delhi –** The Delhi Assembly will be powered entirely by solar energy within the next 100 days, BJP MLA and Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta announced Tuesday. The initiative involves installing solar panels on the Assembly building, with excess power fed back into the city’s grid.
This announcement comes on the heels of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s recent budget address, where she unveiled ambitious plans to expand solar energy access across the city. The Delhi government is finalizing an agreement with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to implement the “PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme,” offering residential consumers subsidies of up to Rs 78,000 for rooftop solar installations.
Further bolstering this initiative, the Chief Minister announced a new state-funded scheme, “PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme – State Top Up,” with a Rs 50 crore budget. This program aims to equip 2.3 lakh residential rooftops with solar panels within the next three years. These combined initiatives represent a significant push towards making Delhi a greener and more sustainable city.
