Tue Apr 01 23:50:00 UTC 2025: ## AIMPLB Urges Opposition to Controversial Waqf Bill
**New Delhi, April 2, 2025** – The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) issued a fervent appeal on Tuesday, urging all secular political parties, including BJP allies, and members of Parliament to vehemently oppose the upcoming Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The appeal comes a day before the Lok Sabha is scheduled to debate and potentially pass the contentious legislation.
AIMPLB president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani stated that the bill is discriminatory and unjust, contradicting fundamental rights enshrined in Articles 14, 25, and 26 of the Indian Constitution. He accused the BJP of aiming to weaken Waqf laws, potentially leading to the seizure and destruction of Waqf properties. Rahmani highlighted concerns that the bill would allow for illegitimate claims on Waqf properties, facilitating seizures by government officials.
The proposed amendments, according to Rahmani, would significantly curtail Waqf protections, including the removal of exemptions from the Law of Limitation, the inclusion of non-Muslim members in Waqf boards, and the reduction of Waqf tribunals’ powers. He further criticized the inclusion of government entities in the bill, arguing that it would legitimize government encroachment on Waqf properties. Rahmani emphasized that targeting Muslim Waqf properties while similar protections exist for other religious endowments constitutes blatant discrimination.
The Lok Sabha will debate the bill on Wednesday, with the Rajya Sabha expected to follow on Thursday. The AIMPLB’s appeal underscores the significant opposition to the bill and its potential ramifications for the Muslim community in India.
