Wed Apr 02 07:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Uttar Pradesh on High Alert Following Introduction of Wakf Amendment Bill

**Lucknow, India** – Uttar Pradesh is on high alert following the introduction of the Wakf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Authorities in several districts, particularly in areas with mixed populations like Mathura, Agra, and Lucknow, have increased police presence and cancelled leave for all police personnel.

The heightened security measures follow concerns about potential unrest surrounding the proposed amendments to the Wakf Act. Police forces are patrolling Muslim-majority areas and conducting flag marches in sensitive locations. In Mathura, police are deployed in mixed-population areas, including Dhiggi Gate, Matiya Gate, Bharatpur Gate, and Chowk Bazaar. Similar measures have been implemented in Lucknow, with increased surveillance in 11 sensitive areas of Old City, including Satkhanda and Rumi Gate, and additional security around the Vidhan Bhavan. Agra has seen increased police and PAC deployment around the Jama Masjid, along with vehicle barriers and drone surveillance. Restrictions on large gatherings have also been put in place in several areas. Social media monitoring has also been intensified.

The state government’s proactive approach aims to prevent any potential law and order issues in response to the controversial legislation.
