**KOCHI, KERALA –** Producer Antony Perumbavoor has refuted claims that actor Mohanlal was unaware of the content in their recently released film, *L2: Empuraan*, which sparked significant online backlash from right-wing groups. Speaking on Tuesday, Perumbavoor stated that the entire film crew, including Mohanlal, was fully aware of the story. He dismissed reports suggesting otherwise.
These denials follow earlier comments by filmmaker Major Ravi who stated that Mohanlal was uninvolved in the scripting and editing, and had not seen the film before its release. Mohanlal himself previously issued a Facebook post expressing regret for any distress caused to loved ones by the film’s political and social themes.
While acknowledging that approximately two minutes of footage were removed from the film after its release, Perumbavoor insisted these edits were made to address concerns raised by the public and not in response to threats. He further clarified that the decision not to have screenwriter Murali Gopy share Mohanlal’s Facebook post was a joint one, aiming to avoid further controversy. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran was also defended, with Perumbavoor stating there was no reason to isolate him in the controversy.
Despite the controversy, *L2: Empuraan* has reportedly grossed ₹200 crore worldwide by March 31. Perumbavoor also confirmed that a third installment in the *Lucifer* film franchise is planned.
