Tue Apr 01 04:40:00 UTC 2025: ## HCU Land Dispute Escalates: Students, Parties Clash Amidst Allegations of Misuse

**Hyderabad, April 1, 2025** – Tensions are running high at Hyderabad Central University (HCU) following a decision by the Telangana government to allocate 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli to the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC). Students, supported by various political parties, are protesting the move, alleging misuse of university land.

The protests intensified today with students clashing with authorities. Police have arrested several students and leaders from the CPI(M), BJYM, and BJP who attempted to block development work on the land.

BJP MLA E. Maheshwar Reddy accused the government of selling the land for Robert Vadra, claiming a lack of transparency and consensus within the state cabinet. He questioned the government’s definition of development as land sales, vowing to continue protests to halt the auction. The DCP Vinith appealed to the public not to believe social media rumors surrounding the land deal.

The BJP is also demanding a fact-finding committee to investigate the land allocation. Meanwhile, left-wing parties have joined the protests, echoing demands for the government to reverse the decision.

Adding fuel to the fire, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao accused the state government of oppressive tactics against protesting students, assuring the BRS party’s support for their fight. A BRS protest was held this morning at KBR Park.

TSIIC has issued a statement clarifying that the 400 acres are government land and that no HCU land is involved in the project. However, this has failed to quell the escalating protests, leaving HCU under heavy police guard. The situation remains tense, with the possibility of further clashes and protests. The matter is also expected to be brought before the High Court.
