Tue Apr 01 08:50:42 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka BJP Accuses Congress of Breaking Price Hike Promise, Plans Protests

**SHIVAMOGGA, April 1, 2025** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of betraying the electorate by increasing the prices of essential commodities after promising not to do so. BJP MLA S.N. Channabasappa, in a press conference today, highlighted significant price hikes in milk (twice), property registration, electric vehicle taxes, electricity, metro fares, and bus tickets since the Congress took power.

Channabasappa questioned the mandate given to the Congress, which won 136 seats in the recent Assembly elections, arguing that the price increases are causing hardship for the people. He alleged that the government is raising prices to fund its five guarantee schemes, a core promise during the election campaign.

The BJP plans a major protest in Bengaluru on April 2, involving approximately 400 senior party leaders and workers. Further divisional-level protests are scheduled to begin on April 7, encompassing the entire state. The party intends to maintain sustained pressure on the Congress government over the issue. The statement concludes with a general overview of the various sections of the online news publication “The Hindu”.
