Tue Apr 01 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Atlanta Shatters Pollen Record, Leaving Allergy Sufferers in Distress

**Atlanta, GA –** Atlanta residents experienced a record-breaking pollen onslaught this past Saturday, March 29th, with the city registering a staggering 14,801 pollen grains per cubic meter of air – the highest count in 35 years. This surpasses the previous record of 9,369 set in 2012 and dwarfs last year’s count of 1,646 on the same date.

Atlanta Allergy and Asthma, which monitors the city’s daily pollen levels, attributed the unprecedented surge primarily to tree pollen, with oak, pine, sycamore, sweet gum, and birch trees identified as major contributors. The abundance of pollen was visually evident across the city and surrounding areas, with social media flooded with images of cars, homes, and streets coated in a thick layer of yellow dust.

While scattered showers on Sunday offered some relief, heavier rain is expected to provide more significant pollen reduction. Meteorologists are predicting severe weather for Monday, with the strong winds and rain potentially washing away the accumulated pollen. However, allergy sufferers are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
