Tue Apr 01 11:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Capitals Prospect Leonard Signs, Could Debut Tuesday After College Exit

**Boston, MA** – Washington Capitals prospect Ryan Leonard has signed his entry-level contract and could make his NHL debut as early as Tuesday. The announcement comes after Boston College, Leonard’s college team, was eliminated from the NCAA tournament, ending his collegiate career.

Leonard, the Capitals’ first-round pick (8th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft, had a stellar season for the Eagles, leading the NCAA in goal scoring with 30 goals in 37 games and earning Hockey East Player of the Year honors. His impressive performance included a 17-game point streak. The 20-year-old forward also boasts two gold medals from World Junior Championships with Team USA.

The Capitals have been actively pursuing Leonard since last season, anticipating his arrival to bolster their playoff push. Washington, already clinched for the playoffs and vying for the Presidents’ Trophy, is undergoing a roster retool while Captain Alex Ovechkin chases Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record.

Leonard’s former linemate at Boston College, Gabe Perreault, also signed his entry-level contract, joining the New York Rangers. Perreault, a first-round pick of the Rangers in the same draft (23rd overall), adds scoring depth to their team as they fight for a playoff spot. The signing of both players marks a significant influx of young talent into the NHL. Leonard finished his college career with an impressive 109 points (61 goals, 48 assists).
