**SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA** – The popular South Korean coming-of-age drama “Weak Hero Class 1,” which gained a devoted following after its release on various streaming platforms last year, is set to return with a second season on Netflix later this year. However, the upcoming season will feature significant cast changes.
The first season, adapted from the popular webtoon “Weak Hero,” followed the story of three high school students – Yeon Si-eun, Ahn Su-ho, and Oh Beom-seok – who unite against bullies but ultimately face a devastating betrayal. The season ended on a cliffhanger, with Su-ho in a coma after a brutal attack orchestrated by Beom-seok, who was manipulated by his abusive father. Si-eun, left heartbroken and vengeful, vows a path of retribution.
While the first season was a word-of-mouth hit, its limited availability on platforms other than Netflix hindered its broader reach. Now, with Netflix’s global reach, the show’s popularity is expected to surge even further.
Season 2, however, will see the departure of key cast members. Choi Hyun-wook (Su-ho) and Hong Kyung (Beom-seok) will not be returning, aligning with the webtoon’s storyline. The second season will focus on Si-eun (Park Ji-hoon), who will navigate new challenges and confront new antagonists, including the main villain from the webtoon, Na Baek-jin. New cast members include Ryeoun, Lee Min-jae, and Choi Min-yeong, who will play significant roles in the unfolding narrative.
The creative director, Han Jun-hee, assured fans that while the platform has changed, the core story of “Weak Hero” remains intact. Netflix is yet to announce a specific release date for “Weak Hero Class 2,” but it is expected to premiere sometime in the second quarter of the year. The anticipation is high amongst fans eager to see how Si-eun’s story continues.
