Mon Mar 24 07:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Bank Strike Averted: UFBU Calls Off Two-Day Action After Government Assurances
**NEW DELHI** – A planned two-day strike by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has been called off, ensuring the smooth operation of banks across India on Monday, March 24th and Tuesday, March 25th. The strike, initially intended to pressure for improved recruitment policies, regularization of temporary staff, and a five-day workweek, was averted following assurances from the Finance Ministry and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).
After intervention by the Chief Labour Commissioner, who facilitated talks on Friday, March 21st, the IBA agreed to further negotiations regarding recruitment and performance-linked incentives. The Chief Labour Commissioner also committed to directly monitoring the implementation of a five-day workweek proposal.
This means all bank branches will function as per their usual schedule on March 24th and 25th, with closures only occurring on the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, and any regionally declared holidays. Customers can expect normal banking services unless affected by any regional holidays still in effect. While the two-day strike has been averted, discussions regarding the UFBU’s demands are expected to continue.
