**Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh – March 23, 2025** – A new study by India Child Protection (ICP) reveals a significant decline in child labor within the incense manufacturing industry in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Chittoor district. The research, conducted in partnership with the NGO Rural Education and Liberty (REAL) and other organizations, found that 77% of respondents across the state reported no encounters with child labor in incense factories.
Chittoor, a major center for incense production, is leading this positive trend. S. Ramarao, Director of REAL in Chittoor, attributed the success to collaborative efforts between NGOs, government agencies, community groups, and industry representatives. He expressed confidence that continued campaigns focusing on community engagement, awareness, and rehabilitation programs will ultimately eradicate child labor in the industry. The study’s findings reaffirm the effectiveness of these ongoing initiatives.
