**Hyderabad, March 23, 2025** – The Association of Buddhist Tour Operators (ABTO) is calling for improved infrastructure and greater public awareness of Bhutan’s Happiness Index in India. International President Mallepally Laxmaiah made the appeal during a meeting with India’s Ambassador to Bhutan, Sudhakar Dalaila, on Saturday in Thimphu.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the International Happiness Day conference, saw Mr. Laxmaiah emphasize the need for better facilities to cater to the growing number of Indian Buddhist tourists. He also advocated for increased promotion of the Happiness Index concept in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and beyond.
Ambassador Dalaila lauded Bhutan’s efforts to improve citizen well-being and acknowledged India’s crucial role in the country’s development. The meeting was attended by a prominent group of individuals including former UGC Chairman S.K. Thorat and other leaders from the fields of education and law. The ABTO hopes these efforts will boost Buddhist tourism and promote the concept of happiness as a key social indicator.
