Sun Mar 23 10:10:01 UTC 2025: ## Filmmaker Condemns “Destructive Development,” Launches Book on Communist Leader
**SRIKAKULAM, March 23, 2025** – Film director R. Narayana Murthy criticized successive Indian governments for prioritizing “destructive development” at the expense of public welfare during the launch of a new book, “Mande Sureedu-Mamidi Appalasuri,” in Srikakulam on Sunday. The book, authored by Attada Appalanaidu, details the life and contributions of Mamidi Appala Suri, a key figure in the 1969 Srikakulam armed peasant struggle and a member of the New Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).
The event, attended by several Communist party leaders and other dignitaries including former deputy chief minister Dharmana Krishna Das, served as a tribute to Suri’s legacy and a platform for expressing discontent with current government policies. Murthy lauded Suri’s fight for farmers and the downtrodden, arguing that the current focus on corporate interests neglects the well-being of ordinary citizens. He called for unity among Communist parties to advocate for the people’s rights.
Other speakers, including senior writers and journalists, echoed Murthy’s sentiments, highlighting Suri’s significant contribution and praising the book for preserving the memory of the 1969 struggle and its significance for future generations. The event concluded with floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Monument.
