**Mumbai, India** – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced significant rule changes for the Indian Premier League (IPL) following a meeting with team captains, coaches, and managers. The changes, effective from the 2025 season, address several key areas including ball-shining, dew management, and the use of the Decision Review System (DRS).
Most notably, the ban on using saliva to shine the ball, implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, will be lifted in 2025. This decision comes after unanimous agreement from all ten IPL franchises.
To combat the effects of dew in evening matches, teams batting second will be able to request a new ball once after the 10th over. A new Code of Conduct with a demerit points system and suspensions (valid for 36 months) will also be implemented in 2025.
Furthermore, the DRS will be significantly enhanced. Hawk-Eye technology will now be used for height-based no-ball reviews and wide-ball reviews outside the off-stump, aiming for greater accuracy and consistency in umpiring decisions. These changes are intended to improve the fairness and overall playing experience of the IPL.
