**PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, NJ** – A new sinkhole has caused significant traffic disruption on Interstate 287 North in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey. Two left northbound lanes were closed Friday afternoon near Exit 41B, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
The sinkhole, located in the left shoulder just before Route 46, is currently under investigation by the NJDOT. Initial reports suggest the sinkhole may be related to a water pipe issue, although this has yet to be confirmed. The incident comes as the NJDOT already tackles two active sinkholes on Interstate 80 in Wharton, following a previous repair in December.
State Senator Joseph Pennacchio expressed concern, noting the sinkhole’s proximity to a drain and its water-filled nature. Assemblyman Brian Bergen voiced stronger criticism, calling the situation “ridiculous” and urging swift action to prevent potential injuries or fatalities. He advocated for increased infrastructure spending, suggesting a reallocation of funds away from “wackadoodle liberal initiatives.”
The NJDOT is currently assessing the situation and working to repair the sinkhole. Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes if possible. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as they become available.
