**Kochi, March 21, 2025** – The Kerala High Court on Friday sharply criticized the central government for its delay in providing financial assistance for Wayanad landslide rehabilitation projects. The court expressed its displeasure over the Centre’s failure to file an affidavit addressing the extension of the March 31, 2025 deadline for project completion and the transfer of funds to the state’s implementing agency.

The court stated that the Centre cannot disregard its previous directives. While the Centre’s standing counsel proposed extending the deadline to December 31, 2025, the court ordered the submission of a formal affidavit by Monday.

The High Court also demanded clarity from the Kerala government regarding the commencement date for debris removal from the affected areas. The state government estimated an 18-month timeframe for this task, prompting the court to request a precise starting date. The court’s action stems from a suo motu case concerning the Wayanad landslides.
