**Bhagalpur, Bihar, March 20, 2025** – A dispute over access to tap water escalated into a fatal shooting in Jagatpur village, Bhagalpur district, Bihar on Thursday. The incident involved relatives of Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, resulting in the death of his nephew, Vishwajit Yadav.
According to Naugachia Superintendent of Police Prerna Kumar, the shooting stemmed from an argument between brothers Vishwajit and Jayjit Yadav over drawing water. Their mother intervened, but Vishwajit was shot dead at the scene. His brother and mother sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
Police confirmed the deceased was indeed the nephew of Union Minister Rai. While acknowledging the familial connection, the SP emphasized the investigation would proceed as with any other such incident. Authorities are recording statements from the accused and forensic experts are examining the crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.
