Thu Mar 20 15:20:00 UTC 2025: ## IMD Issues Storm Warning for West Bengal, Odisha Braces for Rain
**Kolkata, March 19:** The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning in parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, until March 22. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40-60 km/h. The warning is attributed to an anti-cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
A trough extending from central Odisha to Vidarbha, coupled with this anti-cyclonic circulation, is expected to bring light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning to eastern and central India, including sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, on March 20 and 21. Light to moderate rain is also forecast for areas of West Bengal along the Ganges from March 20-22.
While maximum temperatures in eastern India are expected to remain largely unchanged for the next two days, minimum temperatures could drop by 4-6°C over the next three days. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8°C on Wednesday, slightly above normal. Northwest India is expected to see a 2°C increase in maximum temperatures over the next two days, followed by little change.
Odisha is also bracing for light to moderate rain and thunderstorms from March 19-22, with conditions expected to improve thereafter. However, some parts of the state are experiencing heatwave-like conditions. Odisha’s Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, stated that temperatures are rising earlier than usual in several districts, prompting preparedness measures.
The IMD advises residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
