Wed Mar 19 14:16:47 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh Approves Metro Rail Projects, Awards Consultancy Contract**

Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – The Andhra Pradesh government has received central government approval for its Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects, paving the way for the commencement of work. The projects, totaling ₹22,507 crore (approximately $2.7 billion USD), will see the construction of 46.23 km of track in Visakhapatnam across three corridors and 38.40 km in Vijayawada across two corridors.

The state government submitted detailed project reports (DPRs) for both projects in December 2024. Following a request for updated Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMPs), the government tendered a contract for the project. SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd. has been awarded the contract to update the CMPs for both cities, beating out competitors RITES Limited and Assystem. The Union Government approved the appointment of SYSTRA on March 17th, 2025. The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL) has been directed to finalize the agreement with SYSTRA and complete the work within three months.
