**Meerut, Uttar Pradesh:** A couple accused of the gruesome murder and dismemberment of a Merchant Navy officer faced a furious mob of over 100 lawyers in Meerut court on Wednesday. Muskaan Rastogi and her boyfriend, Sahil Shukla, were arrested for the killing of Rastogi’s husband, Saurabh Rajput. The pair allegedly drugged Rajput before stabbing him, chopping his body into 15 pieces, and concealing the remains in a cement-filled drum.
While their court appearance initially proceeded without incident, a large group of enraged lawyers gathered outside the courtroom upon their exit. Despite a significant police presence, the lawyers attempted to assault the accused, climbing onto vehicles and resorting to violence even as the couple were being escorted to a police vehicle. Videos of the incident show the lawyers shouting threats and attempting to physically attack Rastogi and Shukla, with police officers struggling to maintain control. Several blows landed before the police managed to push through the crowd and secure the accused in the vehicle.
Superintendent of Police (Meerut City) Ayush Vikram Singh revealed that Muskaan Rastogi masterminded the murder plot in November 2022, reportedly manipulating her boyfriend, Sahil Shukla, through a fake Snapchat account claiming to be his deceased mother. The police investigation suggests that this deception was crucial in involving Shukla in the crime.
The incident highlights the intense public anger surrounding the case and raises concerns about the security of those accused of such heinous crimes while in police custody. The investigation into the murder continues.
