Wed Mar 19 15:27:09 UTC 2025: ## Army Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Wife’s Murder
**Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, March 19, 2025** – A mahila court in Sivaganga sentenced an army personnel, V. Selvakumar (31), to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, B. Sri Vidya (27), in 2017. Selvakumar had repeatedly demanded ₹10 lakh from his wife’s family for constructing a house. On December 8, 2017, a heated argument escalated, resulting in Selvakumar setting fire to his wife’s saree, causing her death.
Selvakumar, along with his mother, sister, and a relative, were arrested. Following the trial, the court found Selvakumar, his mother, and sister guilty. Selvakumar received a life sentence and a ₹21,000 fine, while his mother and sister were sentenced to two years imprisonment and a ₹17,000 fine. The judge also ordered departmental action against the victim’s father, a sub-inspector, for providing false testimony.
