Wed Mar 19 06:24:59 UTC 2025: ## Srinagar Resident Arrested for Glorifying Militancy on Social Media

**Srinagar, March 19, 2025** – Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police arrested Showkat Ahmad Dar, a Srinagar resident, on Tuesday for allegedly glorifying militancy and inciting anti-national sentiments on social media. Dar, who operated a Facebook account under the name “Shaddy Kashmir Dryfruits,” was apprehended by the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) following social media surveillance. Police allege Dar used his account to disseminate extremist content, including a video of slain militant commander Zakir Musa.

According to police, Dar’s apprehension followed a period of surveillance due to his frequent location changes. A preliminary examination of his digital devices revealed incriminating materials supporting the allegations. This is not Dar’s first brush with the law; he was previously arrested in 2019 for stone-pelting and in 2022 for disseminating radical content online. The police are investigating his associates and potential collaborators.

This arrest follows a recent trend of arrests in Kashmir related to online radicalization. Earlier this month, a social media influencer was charged with promoting terrorism, and six individuals were booked for creating fake accounts to spread pro-terrorism content. Authorities claim that social media companies have established special units to monitor and report radical propaganda in J&K at the request of intelligence agencies.

J&K police emphasized their commitment to curbing online radicalization and protecting youth from extremist influences. The investigation is ongoing.
