Wed Mar 19 08:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Budget: No Funds Allocated Yet for Ambitious “Net-Zero” Future City

**Hyderabad, India –** Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, announced the state’s commitment to building India’s first net-zero “Future City” during the presentation of the state budget on Wednesday. While the project received enthusiastic endorsement, no specific financial allocations were revealed.

The sprawling 765 sq km city, planned between the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar highways, will encompass 56 villages and aims to rival global metropolises in terms of sustainability and innovation. Vikramarka described the project, also a key initiative of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, as featuring state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a pollution-free environment.

Key features of the planned Future City include:

* **Multimodal connectivity and electric public transport.**
* **Green buildings and a sustainable living ecosystem.**
* **Specialized zones:** An AI City (spanning 200 acres), a Pharma Hub, a Sports City, and a Clean Energy Innovation Zone. The AI City will include data centers, high-performance computing facilities, specialized educational programs, and a dedicated AI University.

The Future City Development Authority has been established to oversee the project’s execution. The project was previously approved by the cabinet earlier this month, designating it as India’s first zero-carbon city. While the government’s commitment is clear, the lack of budget allocation for the project in this year’s budget raises questions about its immediate implementation timeline.
