Wed Mar 19 10:28:54 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru City Corporation Faces Delays, Sparking Calls for Early Elections

**Mysuru, Karnataka – March 19, 2025** – The delay in holding elections for the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is fueling growing discontent, with demands for immediate polls intensifying. Former JD(S) corporator S.B.M. Manju highlighted the negative consequences of the absence of an elected body for over a year, citing stalled civic projects, unspent central grants, and a significant rise in outstanding dues to contractors from ₹40 crore to ₹450 crore. He also pointed to substantial shortfalls in property tax and water bill collections.

The MCC Elections Struggle Committee, echoing Manju’s concerns, attributes the delay to the Karnataka government’s proposal to create a Greater Mysuru City Corporation (GMCC), encompassing surrounding areas. Committee convener Arvind Sharma alleges that the real estate lobby is pushing for the GMCC to inflate property values in newly developed layouts. He argues that the timing is premature, as Mysuru needs further industrial growth and job creation before expanding its municipal boundaries.

Conversely, Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Deve Gowda supports the GMCC proposal, asserting that existing local bodies lack the capacity to provide amenities in newly developed areas. The debate highlights a clash between the urgent need for effective local governance and long-term urban planning considerations for Mysuru’s future.
