**ALAPPUZHA, March 19, 2025** – The Alappuzha municipality has declared a section of the city a “Green Town” as part of the state-wide “Malinya Muktham Navakeralam” cleanliness campaign. The designated area stretches from Mullakkal Zero Junction to the District Court Bridge (Mullakkal Street).
The initiative, officials say, is a result of the cooperation of local businesses and establishments which have implemented waste segregation and other cleanliness measures. All commercial establishments along the stretch have installed separate bins for waste collection, and many are promoting the use of eco-friendly products. To celebrate the designation, lamps were lit along the street on Tuesday evening.
Prior to the declaration, the municipality conducted an educational campaign for traders, focusing on scientific waste management practices. Further, all traders and street vendors in the area took a cleanliness pledge administered by Alappuzha municipal chairperson K.K. Jayamma. The municipality’s health wing will conduct regular inspections to ensure continued compliance. The declaration marks a significant step in the ongoing effort to promote sustainable waste management and cleanliness in Alappuzha.
