**Kannur, Kerala, March 18, 2025** – A 12-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with the death of a four-month-old infant whose body was found in a well in Parakkal, Pappinissery, on Monday night. The infant, daughter of migrant labourers from Perumballur, Tamil Nadu, was discovered missing after her cousin briefly left the room. A search party found the baby in a nearby well. Despite efforts to revive her at Pappinissery Primary Health Centre, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police investigations revealed that the 12-year-old girl, who had been living with her uncle and aunt in Kannur for the past month after losing both parents, confessed to throwing the baby into the well. She reportedly feared losing her uncle and aunt’s affection and support.
District Police Chief Nithin Raj stated that the girl, classified as a child in conflict with the law, will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday and placed under government care. Valappattanam Station House Officer B. Karthik is leading the investigation.
